The Women’s History Coalition (The Coalition) was founded in 1983 and incorporated in 1986 by a group of women in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The primary purpose is to coordinate and promote Women's History Month, which is nationally celebrated each March. The Coalition has a multi-ethnic Board of Directors elected by its membership annually and all programs are accomplished by volunteers who have a common interest in preserving the history and contributions of women in South Florida. Members, community contributions and grants from the county and many community agencies support activities.

Dear Friends of Women's History:

Welcome to the 2016-2017 "academic" year for Women's History. We are an all-volunteer organization formed to promote and document women's contributions in Miami-Dade County, as well as within the State of Florida and nationally. As one of our founding members is fond of saying, "if you did not document and write it down, it did not happen!" Think of the years of lost history because no one took the time to document it!

I am also proud to announce the 2017 Woman of Impact Award nomination. You can find the link to the form on this main page. Please note the deadline for the nominations this year, and the contact person for more questions. It is an excellent opportunity to nominate a deserving woman for this very special award that will be given out in an awards ceremony in March during Women's History Month. Please share the nomination with any organization or person interested in honoring a dedicated leader.

This year, our organization will be focusing on soliciting nominations for our third book of women's contributions in Miami-Dade County. These books are called, Herstory, and information on the two previous books can be found on the Herstory tab on this website. Additionally, there is a nomination form to use to submit a deserving woman (yes, that can be self submitted) for inclusion in the third book. You will also find a Membership Application on this page. We are an all-volunteer organization and your support is greatly appreciated. The membership fee is nominal and helps us continue to support women in this county. We also encourage you to watch this website for updates on special speakers and events this year. Membership is open to any individuals interested in promoting and supporting women’s history efforts in Miami-Dade County. Dues are accepted on an annual basis in the following categories: 

$50           Firm/Corporation
$40           Non-profit organization
$30           Individual
$10            Student

The following volunteer opportunities are available for any member:

  • Serve on the Women of Impact Committee to select and plan the annual Women of Impact event
  • Serve on the Committee to plan and execute the Julia Tuttle Gravesite Ceremony each March 1st
  • Speakers Bureau – serve as a speaker for classroom presentation or group speeches during Women’s History Month
  • Oral Histories – serve on the committee to help document the achievements of Women of Impact
